Innovator in the Spotlight

Towards a more inclusive society to raise awareness of basic skills gaps

In the Netherlands, 2.5 million people struggle daily with reading, writing, math, and digital skills, also called basic skills. These deficiencies make it difficult for them to fully participate in society, such as reading and understanding a letter or buying a train ticket, leading to various personal and societal problems.

How to measure innovation speed?

Eindhoven Engine innovation accelerator in the Brainport Region

The Eindhoven Engine strives to improve the innovation speed in the Brainport Region. Therefore it takes a new approach inspired by  several successful experiences: open information sharing as practised in Natlab, student team and mixing of experience with youth as in Kenniswerkersregeling. The Eindhoven Engine currently has 15 projects running in  very diverse application areas: healthcare, Civil engineering, energy transition, … By connecting these projects (co-location, webinars, mini-workshops), transforming mind-sets and sponsoring extra activities the innovation speed of the projects and the region improves.

General project problem description

Methodology; However, innovation speed is rather difficult to measure. Several innovation speed measures are available (e.g., present value of the innovation pipeline and the return on investment in that pipeline, Innovation capacity and capability building (including partnerships and networks) relative to targets and competition, success of individual innovation projects (from concept to customer) and overall platform or new business development programs). Checking the relevant measurements and tune these for  to the Eindhoven Engine specifics will help to optimise the working of the organisation.

Expected Outputs;  A set of innovation speed and innovation acceleration measures applicable to Eindhoven Engine. First measurements on running projects and the environment.
