Smart charging strategies for EVs and analyzing their effects

Electric vehicles (EVs) are increasingly adopted as an alternative for internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEVs) to comply with the Paris Agreement on climate change aiming to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. The increasing number of EVs in combination with uncoordinated charging is changing the existing building load by amplifying the power peaks and energy demand creating congestion in the electricity grid. Therefore, smart charging with proper predictions is essential to limit power peaks.

During the internship, the student will be collaborating with Kropman and the new department of Eiffage Energy Systems, OpenToControl. The internship is focused on contributing to a tool that is being developed by OpenToControl. The tool has the capability of quickly analyzing the effect of adding or removing EVs to a given energy demand profile.

The student will work on simulating different smart charging strategies for EVs and analyzing their effects. This will involve studying the implications and benefits of applying smart charging to EVs. The objective will be to analyze the energy performance behavior, focusing on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as peak load reduction.

The student will gain hands-on experience in analyzing the energy performance behavior of EVs. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to enhance skills and make a meaningful contribution to the development of a cutting-edge smart energy solution.
